In photographing this unique location my vision told me to keep alive it’s riddle and all that makes it fantastical. Tombstone, Arizona is both a real and imaginary town—forever looking to its iconic wild west past. These images communicate my experience of a real community living and working in a tourist destination. The cowboy actors truly get into their character. And when they go home, they shoot real guns for fun and some ride horses on their 100 year old homestead land. It’s not all an act.

Mario Mattei, visionary, social entrepreneur, independent photographer, documentary filmmaker & family man. He is the President & Co-Founder of the both the International Guild of Visual Peacemakers (IGVP) and Visual Peace Media. At age 4 he declared, “The way to know the future is to plan ahead.” In kindergarten he stayed in from recess to draw. When his father took him camping & hunting in Arizona, he shouldered a camera.
